Recommended Retailers and Restaurants

Bistro 222, 222 Ponsonby Road Auckland.

Bistro 222 used to be Estaci, but Shane the owner and head chef Brett, from Da Vincis, have created a new menu and atmosphere which bears no resemblance to the old. Wonderful food, try the Prawn and Crayfish cocktail (with the Rose of course) or ask for the ‘Steak with Everything" ( a combination of the three sauce options of Tomato Ragout, Garlic and Peppercorn sauces) which matches perfectly, need we say... to the Matawhero Merlot Cabernets.

Days Bay-Queens Wharf Ferry

If you prefer to be ‘all at sea' with your drinks, the Days Bay-Queens Wharf Ferry on Wellington Harbour will pour you a soothing Rose on the way to Somes Island or Days Bay where the highest levels of the Wellington Public Service reside.

Herne Bay Cellars, 182 Jervois Road Herne Bay

Herne Bay Cellars is something of an Auckland wine retailing institution, even more so now that they have become our first retail outlet in Auckland!
Owner Mike Hudson is a nice bloke with great wine knowledge who has kindly agreed to stock both the Poverty Bay Riverpoint Rose and the Poverty Bay Matawhero Merlot Cabernets. He also sells interesting beers.

Herne Bay Local

‘Herne Bay Local' might not sound that preposessing but its one of the smartest new generation neighbourhood bars in Auckland. Located in our preferred suburbs of Herne Bay/St Mary's Bay, Andrew Clapham runs a lovely little bar cum restaurant with a clever menu and the freshest Draught Heineken in town. Not that you'll be going there for that of course, since they stock our fine Poverty Bay Riverpoint Rose

Mecca

Just to stay in the ‘hood we also offer you the alfresco delights of Mecca in The Chancery off High Street, where you can sit in the sun and enjoy a Poverty Bay Rose, in between exchanging Albanian jokes with the legendary barista ‘Chimi'. It beats the jokes of the barristers on the other side of the bar.

Soul Bar and Bistro, Waterfront, Viaduct Harbour

Judith Tabron's reign in the Auckland restaurant and bar business continues unabated with Soul Bar and Bistro in the Viaduct.
Supported by peerless right hand men and women, the legendary Geeling plus Mark, Mike and the rest of the gang, Soul's light and airy waterfront environment suits our 2009 Poverty Bay Riverpoint Rose down to the ground.
Traditional menu mainstays such as Scampi cry out for a glass of Riverpoint Rose, but so too does the Duck Confit with Spaetzle and Chorizo and just about everything else on the Soul Menu's state of the art statement about contemporary New Zealand cuisine.

The Auckland Club

Like a young interloper the Poverty Bay Rose takes its place on the wine list of the Auckland Club, founded in 1853. The wine goes particularly well with the Club's Traditional Menu dishes such as offal. Trouble is you need to be a member or know someone who is, to get in. The good news is we know how.

Vivace, 50 High Street Auckland

Probably the busiest restaurant in the Auckland CBD and for very good reason. Alastair and Mandy run a tight ship with an inexpensive menu and friendly staff. The Poverty Bay Rose goes rather charmingly with the Spicy Meatball Salad. And just about everything else on the menu too.

Wine Chambers Restaurant and Bar, corner O'Connell and Shortland Streets Auckland

We couldn't be happer than to be represented in the marvellous Wine Chambers Restaurant and Bar and the downstairs Chambers Bar run by the marvellous Martina and Brad. Conveniently situated on the corner of Shortland Street and O'Connell Streets, the Wine Chamber offers fine and dignified European Food (rare in these here parts) above ground whereas the Chambers Bar offers subterranean excitement with its upmarket Berlin-bunker black and silver styling.

Liquorland Gisborne

Don't expect to be able to buy Poverty Bay wines easily in their home patch. The major bars and restaurants aren't silly and don't fall for just any local wine, hence most don't stock Poverty Bay. However Liquorland Gisborne stock both the Riverpoint Rose and the Matawhero Merlot Cabernets. Owner Marty Van Der Velde is a great supporter of local wines

The Wharf Café, Gisborne

As with Marty, The Wharf Café owner, Llew, is also a great backer of the local wine industry and stocks both the Riverpoint Rose and the Matawhero Merlot Cabernets. The food is always fresh and the service good.

Summer Tastings

Summer tastings in Gisborne are available by arrangement either at the beachhouse or on the side of the road outside Bridge Estate. Phone us.
